Gustave Doré

Born January 6, 1832 and died January 23, 1883, Gustave Doré was a French artist, engraver, illustrator and sculptor but he worked primarily with wood engraving and steel engraving.  He was know for working for publishers illustrating books such as Cervantes’s Don Quixote, Edgar Allan Poe’s The Raven, Coleridge’s Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Milton’s Paradise Lost, Tennyson’s The Idylls of the King, and the Bible.
